Peter Lord has been taking things apart and putting them back together for as long as he (and his siblings) can remember. He has worked at his trade for nearly 25 years, specializing in historic restoration for the past 18. Peter was drawn to plastering because it is such a dynamic art-form that calls for lots of creativity and ingenuity. It's intense to work against the clock with something liquid that is turning to stone, needing to be formed into shape all the while, and that is what he likes best. Peter loves a good problem to solve, the challenge of preserving and saving old craftsmanship, and views old homes as organic systems that have been working well for hundreds of years and should be able to continue for hundreds more. In his free time he enjoys playing saxophone in several bands and his own jazz group, preparing their woodpiles for winter, and making bio-diesel.
Noelle Lord has lived and worked in old houses her entire life, and can't imagine being in any other environment. Her background in business and non-profit development merged through the years to a full-time vocation with Peter in their restoration firm. Her Masters in Adult Education has helped her translate a passion for lifelong learning into helping owners of older buildings discover how to take good care of them through her consulting, teaching and writing. Noelle contributes to several periodicals, is a Contributing Editor to Old House Journal Magazine, is a regular columnist on restoration to several periodicals, and is currently working on a comprehensive book about old house care and repair for Taunton Press. She can't get enough time in the perrenial beds in the summertime, and enjoys antiquing, folk art painting and rug hooking.
When they are not sharing their love of old houses with others, they are likely working on their own 226 year old home and its very long to-do list.
